What to do in case your flight is delayed or cancelled at London Gatwick airport.

London Gatwick (LGW) is the second most popular airport in the United Kingdom, right after London Heathrow. Overall its's the 8th busiest airport in Europe. In 2016, a total of 43 million passengers travelled through Gatwick, making their way to 183 direct destinations. With that much passenger traffic, a flight departing from this airport is bound to be delayed, cancelled or overbooked every once in a while.

Claim the compensation

According to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 an airline has to provide passengers with compensation if their flight is delayed for more than three hours, sporadically cancelled or unrightfully overbooked. Depending on the exact circumstances, the compensation can range from £220.00 up to £528.00 per passenger. However, claiming this can at times be difficult as carriers try to avoid paying the compensation out. Here's a few little tips to keep in mind when filing a claim:

1. Keep your documents

  • Flight documents (boarding pass, booking confirmation, e-ticket, attestation of delay, etc.)
  • Receipts for additional costs (e.g. taxi, food and accommodation)

2. Record your flight data

  • Flight number
  • Hours of the flight (arrival & departure schedule)
  • Length of the delay (final departure and arrival time)

3. Try to know the reason for the delay

  • Ask the staff
  • Check the weather
  • Scan if others flights are delayed

4. Check your flight with our claim calculator

  • Submit your flight details and find out how much you could get

5. Claim your compensation

Filing a claim on your own requires knowing your rights, being sure that the flight is eligible and back and forth communication with the airline. As carriers at times go to great lengths to evade paying compensation, certain claims then even have to go to court. If you would prefer not to waste your time and test your patience, just let us know as we would be more than happy to assist you herewith. With an elaborate database on actual flight schedules and weather conditions, years of experience and a 98% success rate in court, we're more than well equipped to take on your claim. Did we forget to mention our no win, no fee structure? If we need to take your case to court, we'll accept all of the risk and legal fees. Only if you get paid will we charge a 25% success fee.

Internet and support

London Gatwick airport (IATA Code: LGW) offers free Wi-Fi for an hour and a half to all who roam their halls. Additional hours and plans can also be purchased with Boingo for those who need that extra digital access. Note that Boingo offers monthly, 24 hours in one location or standard Mobile services. Another amenity that Gatwick offers are the charging points for your phone. These are located both before and after the security check. Meaning that you will always have a chance to reload your phone’s battery if necessary. Transportation from the airport

Gatwick can be reached by car, taxi, rail and coach/bus. In a mere 30 minutes you can make your way to central London. Alternatively if you have to transfer in London and make your way to a different airport, there are trains that depart every 15 minutes to Heathrow, Stansted and Luton. Analyse which option best suits you so you can make sure to get to the airport on time and start your travels.

Need an overnight stay?

Did the airline randomly cancel your flight and are you now forced to spend the night at Gatwick? Why not make the experience a bit more comfortable by staying at a hotel. As aforementioned, remember to retain the receipt for your accommodation so that we can add this to your claim. And there's no need to worry about straying away too far, there are plenty of options located at the airport. Choose from the modern BLOC with its amazing runway views, the delightful Hampton by Hilton or the convenient and hip Yotel and ensure that you are on time for your flight the next day.
