Milan: Early Friday morning at Bergamo’s Orio al Serio airport a DHL Cargo plane overshot its landing and skidded off the runway.
No injuries have been reported but it must have been a shock for witness that saw the plane’s nose bust through a perimeter fence and onto a provincial motorway and partially blocking a roadway.
Italy’s third biggest airport situated near Milan is a hub for budget airlines and cargo flights were forced to close for 2 ½ hours.
The incident resulted in 15 flights being cancelled and created delays during a peak time for travel. The cause was still under investigation at the time of writing.
A witness was quoted by a local news agency as saying “It could have been a tragedy”
