Discover Airlines pilots to strike on December 23rd, grounding hundreds passengers right before the holidays

Friday, December 22, 2023

Why are Discover Airline pilots striking?

Pilots operating dozens of flights for the German holiday provider, Discover Airlines, announced a 5 hour strike on December 23rd that will impact hundreds of passengers trying to make it home for the holidays.

Promising to boom in popularity during the holiday season, the airline finds itself in a deadlock in salary negotiations with its pilots. Yesterday, the German pilots' union, Vereinigung Cockpit, announced a Discover Airlines pilots’ strike in response to this.

This strike is set to last 5 hours on December 23rd, between 8am and 1 pm. At least 16 flights were scheduled during the strike period, many of which were taking off from main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, leaving hundreds of passengers in a very difficult situation right around the holidays.

Discover Airlines strike: Will it affect my flight?

The airline urges travellers to check their flight status prior to departure and in efforts to minimise the disturbances to its passengers, is rescheduling impacted travellers onto flights outside of the strike period or rebooking them into other Lufthansa aircrafts.
