Hello Austin, I am not sure if I can claim compensation for the 4-hour delay I suffered on my flight. I had just arrived to Manchester Airport, when I discovered that my flight to New York, operated by Delta Airlines, would depart four hours later than scheduled due to a technical problem. Am I entitled to compensation even if the airline is American?
Good morning and thank you for sending us your question. You came to the right place! When a flight is delayed or cancelled because there is a technical problem with the aircraft, passengers will be more than likely entitled to compensation. In your case, given the distance of more than 3500 km covered by your flight, the compensation amounts to €600 (around £530).
Regulation EC 261/2004 can only be applied flights operated by European airlines, or to flights operated by NON-European airlines that depart from an airport located within the European Union.
