Hey Anna, I am thinking of submitting a claim with Flight-delayed.co.uk but I am not sure if I can get a compensation for a strike?
In certain situations you are may be entitled to compensation when your flight has been cancelled or delayed due to a strike. However, the airline may not be obliged to pay a compensation for a cancellation due to a strike.
In case of a cancellation, they won’t have to pay compensation when:
- The airline has informed you of the cancellation of your flight at least 14 days before departure
- The airline has offered you an alternative flight that departs no more than one hour before the original departure time or arrives no more than two hours after the original arrival time.
- The strike was called by the staff from the airport of departure or arrival of your flight.
- The strike was called by the air traffic control of your country of departure, your country of arrival or another country you had to fly over to reach your final destination.
In case of a delay, they won’t have to pay compensation when:
- The strike was called by the staff from the airport of departure or arrival of your flight.
- The strike was called by the air traffic control of your country of departure, your country of arrival or another country you had to fly over to reach your final destination.
If this is not your case, keep reading as you may be eligible for a compensation!
Remember that the original cause of your delay must be within the airline's operational responsibility for the airline to be obliged to pay you compensation. Therefore, a strike by airline pilots and crew members, not to be confused with baggage officers or traffic controllers, may give you the right to compensation.
