Stowaway found in cargo area
Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Swedish ground crew recently discovered a stowaway, hiding in the cargo area of an aircraft. The man, originally from Ethiopia, is said to have boarded the plane in Addis Ababa without notice. Luckily he survived the 10 hour flight in good condition and has now applied for asylum in Sweden.
Tragically, more and more people board planes as stowaways in an attempt to flee their home country. Hiding in cargo areas can be extremely dangerous. Many spend flights hidden in the undercarriage, where temperatures range at about -50 degrees celsius. Most either freeze or fall once the wheels are extended. Aviation experts are not only concerned about the increasing number of stowaways, but also about the apparently inadequate safety precautions.
