UK airports create over 1 million jobs
Friday, January 23, 2015
Investigations led by the airports council ACI Europe have revealed that the UK is Europe’s largest market in terms of air travel. A paper on the economic impact of European airports was published and shows that in 2013 alone, UK airports provided almost 200,000 jobs, second only to Germany. Furthermore the UK's air terminals facilitated a further 1,171,000 occupations in the broader economy.

In total, European airports employ 12.3 million people and generate 4.1 % of total European GDP. Arnaud Feist, President of ACI EUROPE and CEO of Brussels Airport Company said he was impressed by these figures: “The figures on airports’ contribution to jobs and GDP are impressive. They clearly show that airports and their associated aviation partners are not just providing a service to other industries and the travelling public - but that they are in fact a key driver and facilitator of economic growth and prosperity in today’s globalized world”
