Movies that inspired our travel habits

Friday, October 10, 2014

Beautiful fields, lush forests, bustling cities or sandy white beaches. Many of our favourite movies were shot in the most spectacular countries. We were wondering: which movies have inspired you the most when it comes to travelling?

Besides (travel) blogs and magazines, movies also have a big influence on our travel habits. Who hasn’t dreamt of strolling through the romantic scenery of Paris, stopping for a café au lait at the brasserie around the corner, just like Amelie

If you’re not a big fan of big cities, why not visit the lush landscape of New Zealand and discover where the hobbits live. Special Lord of the Rings tours take visitors to the original movie locations and offer a unique behind the scenes tour.

People who want to relax and enjoy breath-taking beaches and a tropical atmosphere probably will find inspiration in movies such as 'The Beach’, which was filmed in Thailand at the legendary Koh Phi Phi Lee beach. However, after the movie was released, this location became so swarmed with tourists and isn't as stunning as it once was. That is why we would advise you to ask local people, trip advisors or tourist offices for the real tropical hot spots and undiscovered beautiful islands.

How about spending Christmas in a typical English cottage somewhere in the countryside of Godalming, the original setting of “The Holiday”. Only an hour’s drive from London, this quaint little town is full of beauty.

Some prefer the free spirit of the United States and an XXL lifestyle. Wooden colonial houses, long stretchingfields and lakes just like in the movie 'Forrest Gump'. If you prefer incredible nature and wildlife, Rocky Mountains is the right place for you. Enjoy the never-ending forests and mountains from the back of a horse, or go hiking. The United States have a lot to offer and it isn’t surprising that Americans enjoy travelling within their own country so much: there really is something for everyone. Travellers who like beaches and surfing will enjoy themselves in California or Florida. If you are more a fan of huge waterfalls and sequoia trees, you should visit the Yosemite National Park near San Francisco. Deserts can be found in the wild west, driving down Route 66. But one of the most impressive places in the States is New York. The 'Big Apple' is full of life and excitement with its 9.5 million inhabitants from about 196 different countries. The home of 'Sex and the City' is an adventure that you definitely should not miss.
