Old KLM uniforms now business class carpeting

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Using old uniforms to make carpeting. That is what KLM is planning to do by incorporating the former ladies' uniforms in the new furnishings of their 'wide body' aircrafts. Designer Hella Jongerius developed the idea for sustainability purposes. KLM is currently undergoing a transformation, including a new look. The business class will be the first to receive a makeover, followed by coach.

The carpeting isn't the only thing that will get a new look; seats will also be made over. Each seat is set to have a different look and colour. The concept behind this is that every seat will be different, creating a less uniform (no pun intended) and more homely space, according to the designer.
