Flight safety compromised in attempt to avoid claims

Friday, June 29, 2012

The penny has dropped with the airline companies: they have to pay damages if their flights are delayed by 3 hours or more. Instead of dealing with this in a proper manner, the choice is made to jeopardize flight safety instead. Airlines say they have to make a tradeoff to avoid delays, and to achieve this, pilots are put under pressure. In order to avoid a delay, an airline might choose not to stop to refuel, putting their passengers and staff in danger. The quantity and quality of air traffic in Europe is extremely high, but these kinds of irresponsible decisions negatively affect the entire airline industry.

Why are the airlines risking this kind of negative publicity? Do airline companies want to scare off potential customers?
