If you were a passenger on an Aeroitalia flight that was cancelled or delayed, your rights as an air passenger are safeguarded by European and British law. In some instances, you may be entitled to up to £520 in compensation as well as a full refund for your cancelled Aeroitalia flight.
Was your Aeroitalia flight delayed? You are eligible for Aeroitalia compensation if your flight was delayed by at least 3 hours.
Was your Aeroitalia flight cancelled? If you declined the airline's substitute flight, you are entitled to a refund. In addition, if your flight was cancelled fewer than 14 days prior to the original departure date, Aeroitalia may be required to give you flight compensation.
Whatever the cause of the flight disruption, airlines are obligated by law to provide passengers with additional support or the "right to care." Vouchers for food and drink, communication services, as well as, if required, accommodation and transportation can all be offered. Claim the vouchers at the airline service desk at the airport, and if they ignore your request, buy what you need anyhow—they will have to reimburse you for those costs (as long as they are reasonable) .
Flight compensation is not possible if your flight is cancelled or delayed due to an "extraordinary circumstance." Aeroitalia must be the party at fault for the flight disruption for you to be eligible for compensation.
You can get flight delay compensation if:
Your Aeroitalia flight was delayed by more than 3 hours
The airline is the party to blame for the delay.
Depending on the circumstances that caused your Aeroitalia flight to be cancelled, you might be eligible to receive an Aeroitalia refund, compensation of up to £520, or even both!
If your Aeroitalia flight was cancelled less than 14 days before the initial departure schedule, then you can claim flight compensation.
Keep in mind that Aeroitalia must be the party at fault for the cancellation for you to be eligible for compensation. See the “Extraordinary Circumstances'' section of this article to know more.
If your flight was cancelled, you can claim an Aeroitalia refund if:
The airline didn’t offer you an alternative flight
You decided not to take the alternative flight option that was offered to you.
|Cancellation notice||Alternative flight||Compensation|
|Fewer than 7 days in advance||Departs 1h+ earlier or arrived 2h+ later||Yes|
|7-14 days in advance||Departs 2h+ earlier or arrived 4h+ later||Yes|
|Fewer than 14 days in advance||No alternative flight offered||Yes + refund|
You might not be eligible for flight compensation under UK/EU air passenger rights legislation if you choose to cancel your Aeroitalia flight. You can visit Aeroitalia's website or contact their customer service line to find out more about their refund and compensation procedures.
If both of your flights were booked as part of one reservation and the delay or cancellation meets the criteria, you might be eligible for compensation and/or a ticket refund under UK/EU air passenger rights legislation.
Before heading to the airport, check the status of your flight to be ready for any last-minute changes to your plans. Visit the websites of the airline, the airport, or a flight tracker to keep up with the latest updates of your Aeroitalia flight.
The amount of the compensation depends on the distance of your flight:
Aeroitalia can deny compensation when the disruption was caused by extraordinary circumstances, such as a third party or force majeure. Aeroitalia is not obliged to pay flight compensation in cases when they are not the party at fault for the delay or cancellation.
Some of the most common extraordinary circumstances are:
Bad weather conditions, such as thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.
A strike, most often specifically within the aviation industry (for example, a strike of air traffic control workers at a specific airport).
However, a strike of the airline's crew is not considered an extraordinary circumstance!
Political circumstances, such as a terrorist attack or general security risk due to political unrest.
Natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.
A collision between the aircraft and birds or other foreign objects.
An ill or unruly passenger.
Flight delays caused by the airport staff, such as extraordinarily long queues to security checks.
However, in some cases, airlines may claim that extraordinary circumstances occurred when it was not the case. Airlines do it intending to avoid paying the corresponding compensation to passengers.
Different national laws will apply depending on the itinerary of your flight. According to Italian law, you have 5 years to claim flight compensation. However, passengers can always choose the option that is most favourable to them.
It is therefore possible to claim under the law applicable in the country of departure or destination when it is not Italy. For instance, if you travel with Aeroitalia to the United Kingdom, you can claim flight compensation under British law, where you have 6 years to file a claim. Scotland is the exception where you would have 5 years to claim.
In most cases, passengers who claim flight compensation or refund with Flight-Delayed.co.uk, receive their money within a few weeks or months.

Aeroitalia is an Italian flag carrier founded in 2022. The airline, based in Forlì Luigi Ridolfi Airport (FRL) in northern Italy, between Bologna and Rimini-Rivera in Tuscany, received its Air Operator's Certificate on April 22, 2022. In July 2022, Aeroitalia began operating scheduled flights from its hub in Forlì to many domestic destinations, Malta, and Zakynthos.
For now, the airline offers charter flights mainly within the European continent, but it is expected that in the coming years it will be able to expand its fleet to cover international destinations in the United States and Latin America.
